April L. Adkins
Biography
April Latrice Adkins was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She began singing in her local church at the age of 4. Music was always a welcome pasttime in her household. During the 1960’s, her parents sang and performed with the group “The Marveloes”. April’s family became well known in the Illinois area and was featured musical performers in many of the statewide religeous and secular events.
April, the 7th of 8 children, always had a desire to sing, and gospel was especially her passion. A gifted singer and dancer, Ms. Adkins was given the opportunity to dance at the “Joel Hall Dance School of the Arts” located in Chicago, IL. Ms. Adkins excelled in singing and dancing and became a regular in the entertainment circles throughout the area.
In 2003 April was chosen among more than 200 singer/actors for a part in Shelly Garrett’s stage production “Beauty Shop-Under New Management”. The show toured the US extensively.
In 2003, she performed with world reknown gospel recording artists, Edwin and Bishop Walter Hawkins who are the song writers for “Oh Happy Day” . The event, “Say No to Drugs” was widely successful.
In 2004, “Who’s That Lady?” premiered at the Black Academy of Arts and Letters Auditorium in the Cake Theatre Center in Dallas, Texas and April Adkins could be found in the leading role of “Diane Fontanau” singing songs from chart toppers such as Chaka Khan and Natalie Cole.
Since her relocation to Stuttgart, Germany in October of 2004, April has engaged her passion of singing. She has been a member and toured with the famous gospel group “The Golden Gospel Singers” (GGS) since January of 2005, and has collected many admiring fans. April is now singing and touring with the gospel group “Voices of Gospel” since December 2006. In August 2007 she startes a collaboration with the renouned "Freedom Family" under the direction of Rev. Lee Brown.
